Crowdfunding for innovation and research

20150721_Experiment_NanoParticles_Science_Health_ProjectHow Crowdfunding predicts trends in society, how research can benefit from Crowdfunding and why it is necessary to combine Science and Crowdfunding – by Karsten Wenzlaff.

Crowdfunding platforms exist for about a decade now, and for more than five years in Germany. While analyzing this market, we noticed something peculiar: trends in society, especially trends around consumer behaviour emerge 2 to 3 years on Crowdfunding platforms before they reach the mass market. Why is this case?

Firstly, the people who are creating new Crowdfunding platforms are highly innovative. They see a gap in funding for a specific niche and then create a platform to bring together money and ideas. Not all of these platforms succeed, more often platforms are created and after a few months the platform ceases to exist. Not enough traction was created, not enough projects were shown on the platform. But for those that succeed, they can often claim to be the first to have developed an innovative funding method. Social Media for Global Good (@BillGates we got to reschedule #impatientoptimists)

  • Tools for Crisis Coping

@BillGates we got to reschedule #impatientoptimist! And I’d like to bring a colleague, too… 🙂

Call for ideas: Digital Baltic Space (english)

With the Digital Baltic Space network we intend to connect the challenges and opportunities of a changing media environment with a cross-border development and strengthening of social entrepreneurship in the Baltic region.

Digital Baltic Space – bringing together economy and civil society

Digital Baltic Space initiates a platform for networking amongst digital and social actors around the Baltic Sea. Addressed are social entrepreneurs, startups, non-profit organizations of civil society and government organizations. The aims are a dialogue on challenges and strategies for dealing with the changing media, an exchange of experiences and to allow for a better networking of the actors.

In the coming months we want to develop projects in collaboration with our partners crossborder factory, twingly, deskmag and berufebilder and we are looking for further interested partners and supporters. For example: currently we are imagining a digital communications platform and want to encourage the regional cooperation by setting up un-conferences (Open Space / bar camp) or by awarding scholarships and organizing study visits.

Who would like to think along with us and participate?
All interested persons are invited to an open online conference. The doodle for the scheduling of a common date can be found here. Please do not forget to send an email with your contact information.
